EcoDigital Zanzibar is a forward-thinking initiative designed to harness the power of digital innovation to tackle the pressing challenges of climate change in Zanzibar. Through the integration of technology, education, data analytics, and grassroots engagement, this project aims to empower local communities with smart, sustainable solutions for environmental monitoring, education, and action.
By combining climate science with local wisdom and digital tools, EcoDigital Zanzibar envisions a resilient, climate-smart archipelago ready to lead the East African region in green innovation.
Key Objectives
- Develop a mobile-friendly e-learning platform in Swahili and English.
- Deliver digital climate education to youth, farmers, fishers, and local leaders.
- Run digital storytelling workshops for youth climate ambassadors.
Climate Education & Awareness
- Deploy low-cost environmental IoT sensors (air, soil, water quality).
- Use drones and satellite data for mangrove mapping and coastal monitoring.

Environmental Monitoring Through Tech
- Establish a co-working tech hub in Stone Town focused on green startups.

Sustainability Plan
EcoDigital Zanzibar is designed to be community-owned and data-driven. After initial setup, local youth and women leaders will be supported to run the innovation hub and maintain the tech systems.
