Project Summary

Project Overview:

“From Sand to Stadium” is an ambitious grassroots football initiative designed to ignite passion, talent, and community spirit across every corner of Zanzibar. This project aims to transform informal, sand-pitched football games into organized, inclusive, and professionally supported grassroots football programs that nurture local talent from the ground up.

Through building sustainable football infrastructure, training local coaches, and establishing youth leagues, we will empower children and young adults, fostering not only athletic excellence but also social cohesion, health, and education.

Objectives:

  • Infrastructure Development: Upgrade and create football pitches in underserved neighborhoods, turning sandy grounds into playable, safe, and enjoyable football fields.
  • Youth Engagement: Organize youth leagues, tournaments, and football clinics for boys and girls aged 8–18 across Zanzibar.
  • Coach Education: Train and certify local coaches to enhance grassroots coaching quality.
  • Community Empowerment: Promote community involvement and build partnerships with schools, local governments, and football associations.
  • Talent Identification & Pathways: Establish pathways to professional clubs and academies for standout players.
  • Health & Social Awareness: Use football as a platform to promote health education, gender equality, and anti-drug campaigns.

Target Beneficiaries:

  • Over 5,000 youth participants (ages 8–18) across Zanzibar’s urban and rural areas.
  • Local coaches and volunteers (training approx. 50).
  • Community members indirectly benefiting from increased social cohesion.

Key Activities:

  • Pitch Renovation & Construction: Leveling, turfing, goalposts, fencing, and lighting installations.
  • Training Workshops: For coaches on youth development, health, and safety.
  • Youth Leagues & Tournaments: Regular seasonal competitions to sustain engagement.
  • Community Outreach: Awareness campaigns and school engagement.
  • Talent Scouting Events: Annual trials and showcase matches for scouts.

Expected Impact:
